B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga

Guruji Sri B. K. S. IyengarB.K.S. Iyengar is probably the most well known yogateacher of our time. His unique, and often also criticised form of yoga is derived from the traditional form of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Having taken the traditional series and building blocks of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system, he replaced most of the flowing elements (Vinyasas) with static posture work in order to achieve an individual therapeutic application. In case of a need props will be applied such as bolsters, woolen blankets, (wooden) blocks, belts, ropes, chairs and others to enable all people, no matter of what constitution, to partake in the practice in ways beneficial to them all.

Guruji Sri B. K. S. IyengarB.K.S. Iyengar Yoga comprises an anatomically utmost precise practice of the Asanas and helps to realign the physical body. Through that this yoga style offers undoubtedly a powerful and safe approach to the Asanas and Pranayama and is therefore, at the same time, an ideal preparation for Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Through the consequent application of an evenly distributed awareness in the Asanas, an experience of a mutual penetration of body and mind can be the result, which can lead to a condition of ‘meditation in motion’.
